18-year-old Katelyn, who has been battling terminal cancer, knew exactly what she wanted her magic moment to be; meet Dolly Parton. A big fan of old-time country music, she particularly loves Dolly and Johnny Cash and has always dreamed of visiting the Grand Ole Opry. When Katelyn’s family contacted us, we rightly suspected that Dolly would graciously agree to meet Katelyn personally. Unfortunately, Dolly was ill on the family’s trip to Nashville and was forced to cancel their planned meeting.
The following week, however, this country music superstar invited Katelyn back to Nashville and made up for her previous cancellation by spending a full day with Katelyn! Dolly prayed with the family and sang to them, she invited Katelyn to join her in a duet of “Jolene,” and even called Katelyn’s grandmother on the phone when she learned that she was a huge fan too. Dolly also wanted to send the family to dinner and pay for their hotel stay, but Katelyn had a major surgery planned and was unable to extend the trip. We suspect that her visit with the Queen of Country Music might have helped keep Katelyn’s spirits up during these uncertain times.
